2024 COA Annual Meeting: Cryotherapy Use in Perioperative Management of Total Knee Arthroplasty – A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

OE Journal. 2024;12(11):8Nine studies with patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing cryotherapy vs. standard care. Pooled outcomes of interest included opioid use, pain on postoperative day one and three, blood loss, and hemoglobin levels. The pooled results indicated that cryotherapy reduced pain and blood loss, while increasing hemoglobin levels 24 hours post-operation. The findings suggest that cryotherapy is a beneficial adjunct in the postoperative management of total knee arthroplasty.
