COA 2024: Clinical Effectiveness of Regional Anesthesia in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair .
Clinical effectiveness of regional anesthesia in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Fourteen randomized controlled trials with patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing regional anaesthesia versus other pain management strategies. Pooled outcomes of interest included VAS pain scores at immediate, 24-hour, and 48-hour post-operative periods, total opioid consumption, and the incidence of adverse events. Results demonstrated significant reductions in post-operative pain and lower incidence of nausea and vomiting in the regional anaesthesia group. The study concludes that regional anaesthesia, particularly with an adjunct ANB, improves perioperative pain management and reduces postoperative nausea and vomiting.
