2023 COA Annual Meeting: A Multi-Centre, Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing a Second-Generation Uncemented Trabecular Metal-backed vs Cemented Polyethylene Glenoid Component in Total Shoulder Arthroplasty: Five-Year Results

93 patients with glenohumeral osteoarthritis scheduled for a total shoulder arthroplasty were randomized to receive a second-generation uncemented trabecular metal glenoid component (n=46) or a cemented polyethylene glenoid component (n=47). The primary outcome of interest was the Western Ontario Osteoarthritis Shoulder Score (WOOS). Secondary outcomes of interest included the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons score, EQ5D, SF-12, clinical and radiographic exams. This was a 5-year follow-up study, previously reported at 2-years post-operation. The results found no statistically or clinically significant differences in all outcomes between the two groups.
