Systemic Absorption of Intravenous and Topical Tranexamic Acid in Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty
44 patients scheduled for primary total hip arthroplasty were randomized to be administered either topical or intravenous tranexamic acid (TEA). The purpose of this study was to compare serum concentrations of TEA when evaluated one-hour post-administration. Patients who received topical periarticular TEA administrated had a significant four-fold decrease in serum [TEA] when compared to conventional intravenous infusion.
