Wear Rates of Highly Crosslinked and Conventional Polyethylene in Total Hip Arthroplasty at 13 Years
16 patients from a previous RCT comparing highly crosslinked polyethylene (HXPE) to conventional polyethylene (PE) liners in total hip arthroplasty (THA) were selected for this long-term comparison. The goal of this study was to compare the wear and total penetration. The results of this study found that HXPE had significantly lower rates of wear and total penetration 13 years after initial component installation.
