2015 COA Annual Meeting: Continuous Femoral Nerve Block is not Superior to Periarticular Injection for Primary Knee Arthroplasty Analgesia

73 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive analgesia in the form of a Continuous Femoral Nerve Block (CFNB) and Posterior Capsular Injection (PSI) or a Periarticular Injection (PI). The purpose of the trial was to assess which intervention provided optimal pain management when used in combination with oral patient controlled analgesia (PCA). Findings indicated that pain management was comparable between groups although the CFNB+PSI group reported better knee flexion.
