Operative Compared with Nonoperative Treatment of a Thoracolumbar Burst Fracture without Neurological Deficit: A Prospective Randomized Study with Follow-up at Sixteen to Twenty-Two Years
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2015 Jan 7;97(1):3-947 patients (18-68 years old) with thoracolumbar burst fracture without neurological damage were randomized to either operative or nonoperative treatment. Patients were followed-up clinically and radiologically from 17 to 22 years. At final follow-up, the nonoperative group demonstrated significantly better pain and functional outcomes when compared to the operative group. Radiographic results did not differ much between groups.
