The accuracy of sub-acromial corticosteroid injections: A comparison of multiple methods

60 shoulders with diagnosed impingement syndrome, were randomized to receive a subacromial injection of a mix of corticosteroids, local anesthetic, and contrast dye either of the 3 anatomical locations: anterolateral, lateral or posterior. The overall accuracy of subacromial injections was 70%, with no difference between the anterolateral, posterior, or lateral portals. Accuracy was not associated with the body mass index. The accuracy of injections did not significantly improve the UCLA score, pain score, or patient satisfaction at 3 month assessment.
