Outcomes of dual mobility cemented versus cementless cups in primary total hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Study Summary

233 older patients with mean age ranged from 74-78 years undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) with dual mobility cups were included across two randomized controlled trials and one retrospective cohort study. The outcomes of interest were pain at rest, pain during activity, functional scores, wear rate, and cup migration. Outcomes were assessed over mean follow-up periods ranging from 2 to 7 years. Overall, the meta-analysis revealed no statistically significant differences between cemented and cementless fixation for any evaluated clinical or radiographic outcome. Although cup migration showed a nonsignificant trend favouring cemented fixation and pain during activity showed a nonsignificant trend favouring cementless fixation, the findings suggest that both fixation strategies provide comparable short to mid-term outcomes in primary dual mobility THA.
