Comparison of total hip arthroplasty performed with and without cement : a randomized trial

250 patients undergoing hip arthroplasty due to osteoarthritis were randomized to receive a Mallory-Head total hip prosthesis with either cement or uncemented insertion. Outcomes assessed were mortality, revision arthroplasty, and health-related quality of life measured with surveys. Over an average follow-up of 6.3 years, the cemented group had significantly more femoral components revised compared to the cementless group. Other outcome measures were similar or nonsignificantly different between groups.
