Health state utility of patients with single-level cervical degenerative disc disease: comparison of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with cervical disc arthroplasty
J Neurosurg Spine. 2014 May;20(5):475-9209 patients with cervical radiculopathy due to single level cervical degenerative disc disease (DDD) were randomized to undergo cervical arthroplasty (CDR) or anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in a previous investigational device exemption (IDE) trial. A cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) was performed on data from the previous trial to discern the most cost-efficient treatment for cervical DDD. Cost effectiveness was based on Short-Form 36 (SF-36) data collected from the original trial. Health State Utility was calculated based on SF-36 data collected over 2 years. The evidence presented in this study demonstrated that both cervical arthroplasty (CDR) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) incurred comparable costs in the treatment of degenerative disc disease.
