Effects of cassava wax bath as a new therapeutic approach on patients with plantar fasciitis: a double-blind, randomised clinical trial.

Forty patients with plantar fasciitis were randomized to receive either a cassava wax bath (n=20) or a paraffin wax bath (n=20). The primary outcome of interest was pain intensity. Secondary outcomes of interest included pressure pain threshold, pain frequency, foot and ankle ability measure, and ankle dorsiflexion range of motion. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, after five weeks of intervention, one month, and three months post-intervention. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both treatments significantly improved all measured outcomes over time, but the cassava wax bath was significantly superior in reducing pain frequency. The findings suggest that a cassava wax bath is an effective alternative to a paraffin wax bath for patients with plantar fasciitis.
