Can repair be an alternative to reconstruction in the management of acute anterior cruciate ligament rupture: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
J Orthop Surg Res . 2024 Jun 2;19(1):331.Six randomized controlled trials including 478 patients with acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing ACL repair versus ACL reconstruction. Pooled outcomes of interest included IKDC score, Lysholm score, Tegner score, anterior-posterior knee laxity, and failure rate. Pooled results showed no statistically significant differences between groups in any outcome. The findings suggest that ACL repair may be a viable surgical alternative to reconstruction in appropriately selected patients with acute proximal ACL injuries.
