Can Exercise Interventions Reduce External Knee Adduction Moment During Gait .
Can exercise interventions reduce external knee adduction moment during gait? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Clin Biomech (Bristol, Avon) . 2023 Oct:109:106064.This systematic review and meta-analysis included nine studies involving a total of 808 patients diagnosed with medial knee osteoarthritis. These studies analyzed the effectiveness of exercise interventions in reducing the knee adduction moment during gait compared to control groups. Pooled outcomes of interest focused on changes in knee adduction moment. The analysis found that exercise interventions did not significantly reduce knee adduction moment compared to controls (P = 0.946). A notable finding from subgroup analyses indicated that studies with only female participants showed a positive effect of exercise on reducing knee adduction moment. The conclusion drawn from these findings suggests that while exercise interventions may benefit certain subgroups, such as females, they generally do not reduce knee adduction moment in patients with medial knee osteoarthritis.
