Calcium + Vitamin D supplementation reduces the risk of total and hip fractures in adults .
This study has been identified as potentially high impact.
OE's AI-driven High Impact metric estimates the influence a paper is likely to have by integrating signals from both the journal in which it is published and the scientific content of the article itself.
Developed using state-of-the-art natural language processing, the OE High Impact model more accurately predicts a study's future citation performance than journal impact factor alone.
This enables earlier recognition of clinically meaningful research and helps readers focus on articles most likely to shape future practice.
OrthoEvidence Journal (OE Journal) - ACE Report
OE Journal. 2016;4(9):16 Osteoporos Int. 2016 Jan;27(1):367-768 randomized controlled trials (30,970 adults) comparing calcium with vitamin D supplementation against no supplementation or a placebo in an adult population were included in this study. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to analyze the effect of calcium and vitamin D supplementation on fracture prevention (total and hip) in adults. The results displayed a significant reduction of 14% in total fractures and a significant reduction of 30% in hip fractures, with calcium and vitamin D supplementation, when compared to a placebo. Furthermore, results were robust to sensitivity analyses and were consistent in the subgroup analyses conducted by adherence to assigned treatment, use of personal supplements, community-dwelling and institutionalized patients.
