Investigation of Clinical Effects of High- and Low-Resistance Training for Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Phys Ther. 2008 Apr;88(4):427-36. Epub 2008 Jan 24.102 healthy subjects (>50 yr old) were randomized to undergo 8 weeks of high-resistance exercise, low-resistance exercise, or no exercise. The purpose of the study was to compare the effects between the different resistance levels. Both high- and low-resistance strength training significantly improved clinical outcomes in mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis. High-resistance strength training tended to have superior outcomes than low-resistance strength training, but this difference was statistically insignificant.
