Porous titanium construct cup compared to porous coated titanium cup in total hip arthroplasty. A randomised controlled trial
Int Orthop. 2015 May;39(5):823-3251 patients with primary hip osteoarthritis scheduled for total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to receive either a cup with porous titanium construct backside or a conventional porous coated titanium cup. The purpose was to determine if the porous titanium construct cup resulted in an altered periacetabular bone loss and migration compared to the conventional cup, assessed 2 years after surgery. Results demonstrated that the pattern of bone remodeling and BMD was similar in both groups, with no differences in migration or clinical outcomes.
