Interpositional Bioresorbable Scaffold-Anchor Appears Non-inferior to a Standard Anchor in the Treatment of Rotator Cuff Tears.

Ninety-nine patients with full- or high-grade partial-thickness rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive either a novel interpositional bioresorbable scaffold-anchor (n=50) or a standard all-suture anchor (n=49) during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. The primary outcome was the retear rate assessed via ultrasound at 6 months postoperatively. Secondary outcomes included visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Simple Shoulder Test (SST), strength, and active range of motion (AROM), evaluated preoperatively and at 3 and 6 months postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed no significant difference in retear rates or in any of the secondary outcome measures between the two groups. These findings suggest that the novel scaffold-anchor is non-inferior to the standard anchor for rotator cuff repair but does not confer added clinical benefit.
