Biodegradable magnesium screw, titanium screw and direct embedding fixation in pedicled vascularized iliac bone graft transfer for osteonecrosis of the femoral head: a randomized controlled study.
J Orthop Surg Res . 2023 Jul 22;18(1):523.Thirty-six hips with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) were randomized to receive either biodegradable magnesium screws (n=12), titanium screws (n=12), or direct embedding fixation (n=12) in pedicled vascularized iliac bone graft transfer. Outcomes of interest included the Harris Hip Score (HHS), operative time, length of stay, and adverse events after 6 months. HHS scores were significantly better in the biodegradable magnesium screw group compared to the titanium screws and the direct embedding fixation groups. All other outcomes were similar between the two groups.
