Is external fixation a better way than plaster to supplement K-wires in non-comminuted distal radius fractures?

56 patients with non-comminuted distal radius fractures were randomized to receive a K-wire stabilization supplemented by either an external fixator or plaster cast for 4 weeks. Patients were assessed postoperatively for results related to pain, satisfaction, and range of motion. Comparisons yielded statistically significant results in favour of the ExFix group for pain, satisfaction, and range of supination, but it was unclear at which time point after surgery these applied to.
