Clinical outcomes comparison of distal radius fractures between two conservative treatment methods: Below-arm cast versus reverse sugar tong splint.

One hundred and forty patients with distal radius fractures were randomized to receive a reverse sugar tong splint (n=70) or a below-arm plaster cast (n=70). Outcomes of interest included functional, radiological, and clinical outcomes, including range of motion, volar tilt, radial inclination, radial height, Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score, Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), grip strength, and complications. Results revealed significantly lower rates of cast wedging, better HAQ scores, and stronger grip strength in the reverse sugar tong group compared to the below-arm cast group. No significant differences between groups were observed in all remaining outcomes
