The effect of sulphurous water in patients with osteoarthritis of hand. Double-blind, randomized, controlled follow-up study

47 patients with osteoarthritis of the hand were included in this study to evaluate the effectiveness of balneotherapy treatments (sulphurous water). Participants were randomized to receive balneotherapy or warm tap water baths (control) 15 times over a 3 week period. At the end of treatment and at the 3 month follow-up, participants in the balneotherapy group experienced significantly less pain and superior mean EuroQol health state scores than the control group. These differences were not maintained at the 6 months follow-up.
