The use of autologous platelet gel in toenail surgery: a within-patient clinical trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(5):28 J Foot Ankle Surg. 2010 Jul-Aug;49(4):385-9. doi: 10.1053/j.jfas.2010.04.019. Epub 2010 Jun 335 patients (70 feet) undergoing bilateral ingrown hallux nail surgery were randomized to receive either autologous platelet gel (APG) or standard treatment care postoperatively in order to determine the efficacy of APG in wound healing. Following evaluations over a 1 month period, results indicated that although patients receiving APG experienced a shorter recovery time and less pain than the control group, the differences were not significant. Moreover, toe inflammation was slightly greater in the experimental group, but this was also not significant.
