Autologous platelet gel in total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized study

40 patients scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive adjunctive treatment with autologous platelet gel (APG) or no adjunctive treatment (control) to investigate haemostatic, healing and functional benefits. Throughout the hospital stay, APG use resulted in smaller haematomas, less pain on 3rd day, no wound healing complications, and shorter hospital stay. The findings, however, were marginal and not clinically significant.
