The Impact of Attribution Training on Emotional and Functional Recovery in Elderly Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Single-Center Randomized Controlled Trial.

Seventy-six patients undergoing TKA were randomized to attribution training added to routine care (n=38) or routine care alone (n=38). The primary outcome was post-treatment negative emotions (HAMA/HAMD). Secondary outcomes included Attributional Style Questionnaire (ASQ) positive/negative events and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) knee scores. Outcomes were assessed ~8 weeks post-discharge. Overall, the results revealed lower HAMA and HAMD in the attribution-training group, alongside higher ASQ-positive, lower ASQ-negative, and better HSS function. These findings suggest attribution training meaningfully improves emotional status and functional recovery after TKA.
