Early outcomes of primary total hip arthroplasty with use of a smartphone-based care platform: a prospective randomized controlled trial.

研究概要

Three hundred and sixty-five patients undergoing a primary, unilateral total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive standard-of-care management (n=198) or a smartphone/smartwatch-based care management system (n=167) during the peri-operative and post-operative phase. Outcomes of interest included the Euro-Quality of Life 5 Dimensions 5 Levels (EQ-5D-5L) score, the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcomes Score (HOOS), the single leg stance test, timed up and go (TUG) test, hip range of motion, post-operative physiotherapy use, readmission rate, and the incidences of visits to urgent care, physicians office, and the emergency department. Outcomes were assessed up to 90 days post-operation. Results revealed a significantly lower rate of post-operative physiotherapy use in the smartphone group. Also, the single leg stance test at 3 months was significantly in favour of the control group. No significant differences in all remaining outcomes were observed between the two groups.
