Effectiveness and safety of arthroscopic versus open Bankart repair for recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation: a meta-analysis of clinical trial data

OE Journal. 2015;3(13):13 Arch Orthop Trauma Surg. 2015 Apr;135(4):529-3816 trials with 3 randomized controlled trials, 1 quasi-randomized controlled trial, and 12 controlled clinical trials evaluating a total of 827 shoulder treatments were included in this meta-analysis to analyze the effectiveness and safety of arthroscopic versus open Bankart repair in recurrent anterior shoulder dislocations. Pooled results demonstrated that arthroscopic repair resulted in greater recovery of range of motion, but had higher recurrence and re-operation rates than open repair. Rates of adverse events, such as dysesthesia, persistent pain, and wound problems, were similar between arthroscopic and open Bankart repair.
