Comparison of open acromioplasty, arthroscopic acromioplasty and physiotherapy in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome: a prospective randomised study

87 patients with subacromial impingement syndrome were randomized to undergo either open acromioplasty (open group), arthroscopic acromioplasty (arthroscopic group), or physiotherapy (PT group). The purpose of this study was to compare the aformentioned treatments in terms of Constant scores, Watson and Sonabend scores, and SF-36 health survey scores at 2 to 3 years post-treatment. No significant differences were reported between groups for all measured outcomes at follow-up. It should be noted that this trial was terminated before reaching its planned sample size due to time constraints and patient cross-over (details not provided in publication). Short-term outcomes were not provided.
