Arthroscopic versus mini-open rotator cuff repair: a prospective, randomized study with 24-month follow-up

OE Journal. 2014;2(20):6 Eur J Orthop Surg Traumatol. 2014 Aug;24(6):845-50.125 patients with a rotator cuff tear were randomly assigned to arthroscopic or mini-open repair. This study aimed to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of both surgical procedures. Data demonstrated significantly improved outcomes for both techniques compared to pre-operative state, but no differences in outcome between the two. When considering patients only with full-thickness tears, shoulder abduction and strength was greater after arthroscopic repair, however re-tear rate was also significantly higher compared to mini-open repair.
