Arthroscopic shaving significantly reduces pain in patients with patellar tendinopathy .
Sclerosing polidocanol injections or arthroscopic shaving to treat patellar tendinopathy jumper's knee? A randomised controlled study
Br J Sports Med. 2011 Apr;45(5):411-5. doi: 10.1136/bjsm.2010.08244645 patients (52 tendons) with patellar tendinopathy were randomized to receive treatment with ultrasound and colour Doppler-guided sclerosing polidocanol injections or ultrasound and colour Doppler-guided arthroscopic shaving, to determine which treatment method was more effective at lowering patellar tendon pain. Following evaluations over a 12 month period, the results indicated that patients who received surgical treatment had significantly less pain at rest and during sport activity and were significantly more satisfied, compared to patients received ultrasound and colour Doppler-guided sclerosing polidocanol injections.
