Arthroscopic Repair Vs Debridement for Subscapular Tears .
Prospective Randomized Clinical Trial of Arthroscopic Repair Versus Debridement for Partial Subscapularis Tendon Tears More Than Half of the Entire First Facet.
Am J Sports Med . 2023 Sep;51(11):2804-2814.80 patients with subscapular (SSC) tears were randomized to receive either arthroscopic repair (n=40) or debridement (n=40). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), functional VAS scores, Constant-Murley, range of motion, American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons (ASES) at 6 months, 1, 2, and 5 years. Subscalularis muscle strength was assessed at 1, 2, and 5 years, postoperatively. Radiological outcomes such as Goutallier grading, upper and lower muscle atrophy were also assessed at 6 months and 2 years. Range of motion (external rotation) at 1 year and muscle strength at 5 years were significantly better in the debridement group and repair group, respectively. All other outcomes at all time points were similar.
