Comparison of artificial cervical arthroplasty versus anterior cervical discectomy and fusion for one-level cervical degenerative disc disease: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

13 studies comparing two surgical treatments of cervical degenerative disc disease (CDDD) were included in this meta-analysis. The purpose of this study was to compare the safety and efficacy of anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with total disc replacement (TDR). Results of this study found TDR as a viable alternative to ACDF in the treatment of CDDD given the similarity among adverse events, and the improvement noted in neck pain, range of motion, neurological success, and rate of secondary surgical procedures, comparatively.
