Combined anterior cruciate ligament revision with reconstruction of the antero-lateral ligament does not improve outcome at 2-year follow-up compared to isolated acl revision; a randomized controlled trial.
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc . 2023 Nov;31(11):5077-5086.A total of 103 patients undergoing their first ACL revision were randomized to receive either combined ACL revision and ALL reconstruction (n=49) or isolated ACL revision (n=54). The primary outcome was the KNEES-ACL looseness score at 2-year follow-up. Secondary outcomes included additional KNEES-ACL subscales, KOOS subdomains, and Tegner Activity Scale. Objective knee laxity and rotational stability were assessed at 1 year using Rolimeter, Lachman, and pivot shift tests. Overall, there was no significant difference in primary or secondary outcomes between the groups. The study concludes that supplementary ALL reconstruction does not improve outcomes in first-time ACL revision patients.
