Compression stockings in the management of fractures of the ankle: a randomised controlled trial

OE Journal. 2014;2(20):12 Bone Joint J. 2014 Aug;96-B(8):1062-990 patients who sustained an ankle fracture were randomized to receive an Aircast boot with either a fitted ankle injury stocking or Tubigroup underneath the boot within 72 hours post-fracture. The purpose of this trial was to determine if elastic compression using an ankle injury stocking aided recovery up to 6 months postoperatively. Upon analysis, ankle injury stockings reduced ankle swelling and improved OMAS, AOFAS, and SF-12v2 scores up to 6 months.
