Analysis of rehabilitation effect of electroacupuncture for patients after total knee arthroplasty.

Eighty patients with knee osteoarthritis who underwent total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive electroacupuncture combined with routine rehabilitation (n=40) or routine rehabilitation with sham electroacupuncture (n=40). The primary outcome of interest was pain reduction, measured by the visual analogue scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included knee function (Knee Society Score, KSS), range of motion (ROM), and overall rehabilitation effectiveness. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, three days post-surgery, two weeks post-surgery, and one month post-surgery. Overall, the results of the study revealed that electroacupuncture significantly reduced pain and improved knee function and ROM at two weeks and one month postoperatively compared to sham treatment. These findings suggest that electroacupuncture may be a valuable adjunct to enhance recovery following total knee arthroplasty.
