For the kneejerk threshold, no significant correlations were found between age and initial threshold or age and post-LSD kneejerk threshold. For pupil diameter, significant negative correlations were found between age and pre-LSD pupil diameter and between age and post-LSD pupil diameter. These findings suggest that the degree of pupil dilation induced by LSD-25 decreases with advancing age and when matched for age, chronic schizophrenic patients do not differ from nonpsychotic subjects in pupillary response to LSD-25. The results are limited by the small sample size.

Ten subjects underwent a study to test the effects of LSD-25 on pupil dilation and kneejerk threshold in both healthy subjects (N = 5) and chronic schizophrenic patients (N = 5). All subjects received intramuscular injections of two doses of LSD-25 (0.5 and 1.5 mcg/kg). Significant negative correlations were found between age and initial pupil diameter and between age and pupillary response to LSD-25 in both groups. No significant differences were found between the two groups in the effects of pupil dilation and decrease in kneejerk threshold.
