The treatment of chondral lesions of the knee with the microfracture technique and platelet-rich plasma

20 patients with Outerbridge grade II-III cartilage lesions of the femoral condyle were included in this study. All patients were scheduled to undergo arthroscopic microfracture and were randomized to receive or not receive intra-articular platelet-rich plasma injections postoperatively. Outcomes included a visual analog scale for pain and the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, which were assessed at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Results demonstrated significant higher IKDC scores in the PRP group compared to the control group at 6 and 12 months, and no significant differences between groups in VAS pain at either time point.
