Postoperative Analgesia Using Peripheral Anesthetic Block of the Foot and Ankle
Foot Ankle Int. 2018 Feb;39(2):196-20061 patients scheduled for foot and ankle surgery under spinal anesthesia were randomized to either receive or not receive regional anesthesia with an ankle block. Patients were assessed for pain scores at 6, 24, and 48 hours after surgery, time to onset of pain, and comfort of their first night's sleep after surgery. Results demonstrated significantly lower pain at 6 hours after surgery in the ankle block group compared to control group, while pain scores at 24 and 48 hours did not significantly differ.
