Ankle tourniquet pain control in forefoot surgery: a randomized study

OE Journal. 2014;2(5):11 Foot Ankle Int. 2011 Jun;32(6):595-8. doi: 10.3113/FAI.2011.0595Tourniquet use in some surgeries has been reported to cause pain and discomfort in awake patients. 56 patients undergoing forefoot surgery under regional anaesthetic were randomized to determine the effect of additional subcutaneous anaesthetic to the tourniquet area to manage any pain or discomfort that may be experienced. Intraoperative assessment observed no difference in pain between those who received the additional analgesic mixture and those who did not. Furthermore, skin condition was similar between groups.
