Transforaminal injection of corticosteroids for lumbar radiculopathy: systematic review and meta-analysis

Epub 2011 Sep 4Five randomized controlled trials (368 patients) were identified to analyze the effectiveness of steroid injection in the treatment of lumbar radicular pain. The results of this meta-analysis and systematic review indicated improvement in pain but not disability in the steroid treatment compared to the control; however, these differences were not significant. This meta-analysis demonstrated that there were no significant benefits with the addition of steroids for the treatment of lumbar radicular pain.
