Addition of Dry Needling to Manual Therapy for Mechanical Neck Pain Improves Pain and Function .
Efficacy of dry needling as an adjunct to manual therapy for patients with chronic mechanical neck pain: a randomised clinical trial.
Acupunct Med. 2020 Aug;38(4):244-254.One hundred and one patients with chronic mechanical neck pain were randomized to receive 2 sessions of manual therapy with dry needling or sham dry needling. The outcomes of interest included pain on a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), cervical range of motion, pain pressure threshold (PPT), and Neck Disability Index (NDI) scores. Outcomes were assessed immediately following completion of treatment and at 1 month post-treatment. Whilst all groups reported significant improvements from baseline in all outcomes, the dry needling group reported significantly favourable results in all outcomes compared to the sham group.
