Functional outcomes of outpatient balance training following total knee replacement in patients with knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled trial
Clin Rehabil. 2015 Sep;29(9):855-67.130 patients with knee osteoarthritis who had undergone total knee replacement were randomized to receive either functional rehabilitation with additional balance training or just functional training alone. The purpose of the study was to determine how 8 weeks of balance rehabilitation affects functional outcomes and mobility after 32 weeks. The results demonstrated that the addition of balance training to functional rehabilitation resulted in significant improvements in balance, mobility and functional assessments after 32 weeks in comparison to the patients who only received functional training.
