Regional vitamin C in Bier block reduces the incidence of CRPS-1 following distal radius fracture surgery
Eur J Orthop Surg Traumatol. 2021 May;31(4): 689-693.Sixty-eight patients with isolated extra-articular distal radius fractures scheduled for surgical fixation under a Bier block were randomized to receive 500 mg of Vitamin C (n=35) or placebo (n=33). The primary outcome of interest was the incidence of complex regional pain syndrome, measured up to 12 weeks post-operation. Results demonstrated a significantly lower occurrence of complex regional pain syndrome in the Vitamin C group compared to the placebo group (p=0.04).
