A meta-analysis of hamstring autografts versus bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts for reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament

Epub 2010 Sep 17A total of 19 RCTs were evaluated in this analysis to determine the comparative efficacy of bone-patellar tendon bone (BPTB) and hamstring (HT) autografts in ACL reconstruction. The studies included a total of 1643 patients. The results indicated that the incidences of anterior knee pain, kneeling pain, and extension loss were reduced with HT grafts, and stability was improved with BPTB grafts. Subgroup analysis suggested that 4-strand grafts were more stable than 2-strand grafts and non-inferior to BPTB grafts.
