Increased incidence of osteoarthritis of knee joint after ACL reconstruction with bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts than hamstring autografts: a meta-analysis of 1,443 patients at a minimum of 5 years.

A total of 14 studies (12 RCTs and 2 PCS) containing 1443 patients were included in this meta-analysis comparing bone-patellar tendon-bone and hamstring autografts in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. This analysis involved studies with a minimum follow-up of 5 years, evaluating International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scores, return to pre-injury activity level, KT-1000, Lachman test, pivot shift test, anterior knee pain, kneeling pain, extension loss, flexion loss, graft failure, or radiographic outcomes. Results indicated similar outcome between groups, except with respect to anterior knee and kneeling pain, and radiographic incidence of osteoarthritis, which were more favorable in the hamstring autograft group.
