Eccentric Training Decreases Paratendon Capillary Blood Flow and Preserves Paratendon Oxygen Saturation in Chronic Achilles Tendinopathy
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2007 May;37(5):269-7620 patients either with insertional or midportion chronic Achilles tendinopathy were randomized to receive eccentric training or conventional cryotherapy as treatment for this condition. The results indicated that following the 12 week treatment period, eccentric training resulted in reduced paratendinous blood flow, decreased pain, unchanged and preserved oxygen saturation, and reduced postcapillary venous filling pressures.
