Accuracy of the biceps tendon sheath injection: ultrasound-guided or unguided injection? A randomized controlled trial

OE Journal. 2013;1(18):27 J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2011 Oct;20(7):1069-73. doi: 10.1016/j.jse.2011.04.004. Epub 2011 Jul 2230 patients presenting with shoulder pain possibly derived from tenosynovitis or tendinitis of the long head of the biceps branchii were randomized to determine the difference in accuracy of lidocaine test injection into the biceps tendon sheath. Patients were allocated to receive either an ultrasound-guided or unguided injection, and underwent CT analysis after injection. The results demonstrated that ultrasound guidance significantly increased the accuracy of the injection into biceps tendon sheath.
