Accelerated Rehabilitation Protocol For Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction .
Functional outcomes of accelerated rehabilitation protocol for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in amateur athletes: a randomized clinical trial.
J Rehabil Med . 2024 Feb 22:56:jrm12296.One hundred (100) amateur male athletes with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) were randomized to receive either an accelerated rehabilitation protocol (n=50) or a conventional rehabilitation protocol (n=50). The primary outcome of interest was knee pain, measured using a visual analog scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included hop test performance, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), and knee effusion. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after 22 weeks. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the accelerated rehabilitation protocol significantly improved functional outcomes compared to the conventional protocol, with better scores in hop tests and KOOS subscales, although both protocols were equally effective in reducing knee pain. These findings suggest that an accelerated rehabilitation protocol may lead to more rapid and better functional recovery in amateur athletes after ACLR.
