Accelerated Care of Patients with Hip Fractures is Associated with Lower Risk of Delirium and Infection, and a Shorter Length of Hospital Stay: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Level One Evidence.

This systematic review and meta-analysis included three randomized controlled trials encompassing 3,430 patients with hip fractures. The focus was on comparing accelerated care versus standard care. Pooled outcomes of interest included mortality rates, time to surgery, peri-operative complications, and length of hospital stay. The analysis showed that accelerated care was associated with significantly lower risks of delirium and reduced hospital stay duration, but no significant difference in mortality rates or other complications. These findings suggest that accelerated care could enhance patient outcomes by reducing hospitalization time and the incidence of delirium.
