2019 AAOS Annual Meeting: Is Atelocollagen Injection Effective in Partial Thickness Rotator Cuff Tears at Clinic? A Prospective Randomized Clinical Evaluation

94 patients with symptomatic partial thickness rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive 1mL atelocollagen injections, 0.5mL atelocollagen injections, or no injection for the conservative treatment of the rotator cuff tears. Outcomes of interest included range of motion, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, ASES score, Constant Shoulder Score, and the change in tear size, muscle volume and fatty infiltration on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The results from the study revealed significant decreases in tear size with both atelocollagen doses compared to the no injection group. No significant differences in clinical scores, range of motion, or the change in muscle volume or fatty infiltration were observed between the three groups.
